In the depressive type of schizoaffective disorder, individuals experience both psychotic symptoms and major depressive episodes. The predominant mood symptoms are persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest or pleasure, changes in appetite or sleep, and thoughts of death or suicide. Unlike the bipolar type, there are no distinct episodes of mania or hypomania in this subtype.
